Are you a veterinary surgeon or experienced nurse with a passion for wound management? Or are you from the human field and interested to experience what is going on in veterinary wound healing science, or to be inspired from another point of view?? Join the
International Conference of the Veterinary Wound healing Association (VWHA) at
EWMA-GNEAUPP 26-27 March 2025
The theme is:
“Practical approach of traumatic wounds in horses and small animals: How to promote healing and reduce antimicrobial resistance”
We have created a nice and broad program for you in collaboration with AVEE and AVEPA, (The Spanish Equine and Small animal association).
This year we focus on the common issues with acute and chronic wounds in our equine and small animal patients. There will be lectures interesting for both equine and small animal veterinarians, because there are many similarities in the approach of wounds in large and small animals. But there are differences between the species and we highlight them as well.
There will be two days packed with lectures on wounds and challenges we all encounter in everyday veterinary practice
On Wednesday March 26th we focus more on acute wounds. How to evaluate a patient with a traumatic wound and what to do to in order to increase the chance on successful wound closure. The role of antibiotics, antiseptics, lavage and debridement is discussed. What to do when things go wrong? At the end of the afternoon, we have an equine session about melanoma, a common problem in Andalusian horses.
On Thursday March 27th we will focus on wounds healing by second intention, products and methods available for wound treatment. Besides the use of local topical products and dressings, we will address a variety of treatment options to support wound healing and we will present surgical solutions to heal wounds with skin grafting techniques and/or reconstructive surgery. At the end of the afternoon we have a small animal session with focus on the advantages and mistakes during reconstructive surgery.
Join the Veterinary Wound Healing Association’s congress to learn about the practical approach to optimise wound treatment. Enjoy the program!
